                       In Advent

Wreathe with one candle by WP clipart

Preparing for the sacred commemoration of Christ’s birth and first manifestations, the Church Community celebrates the Advent Season – a period for devout and joyful expectation when Jesus’ first coming to us is remembered and when that remembrance directs the mind and heart to await Christ’s Second Coming at the end of time.

Christ Our Hope Community comes together on or near the First Sunday of Advent each year to bless the advent wreath.

At the first candle is lit, we pray (*):

PRESIDER – God sparks the light of Divine Presence among us.

ASSEMBLY – May this light illumine all our encounters, and may it make us more loving and generous towards others, as we begin our Advent Journey.

“God’s sign is simplicity…(the Divine One becomes) small for us (not coming) with power and outward splendour(but as ) defenceless and in need of our help, (asking us) for our love…Christmas has become the Feast of gifts in imitation of God who has given (the Divine Gift) to us…

(Pope Benedict XVI)

Our Elizabeth street Community assembles on or near Christmas Day each year and celebrates with Eucharist the fact that ‘Jesus is the Reason for the Season!’

Proceeds from a Christmas Lunch, held earlier in the month of December, are distributed to various nominated Charities by the Community:

2011 - Jesuit Social Services (Mt Druitt Project).

In previous years, proceeds have gone to Sacred Heart Hospice, Darlinghurst; Vision Australia. Also, Christmas Hampers have been been prepared and distributed to the Needy, locally.
